Emergency services have descended on a busy Rochdale road following a five-vehicle smash. Firefighters were called out to Whitworth Road shortly after 8pm this evening (February 14).
Crews supported police at the scene. The road has been closed in both directions from Bernard Street to Healey Lane since the incident, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.
Eyewitnesses reported a major response to the incident, which took place near to Healey Surgery. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 8pm today (Wednesday, February 14), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Whitworth Road, Rochdale.

“One fire engine from Rochdale quickly attended the incident which involved five vehicles. Crews worked with Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately 45 minutes at the scene.”
Further details about the incident are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
