Shota Imanaga has been as good as you could have POSSIBLY hoped in his initial transition from Japan to Major League Baseball. In fact, he’s been so good that he cannot get any better, and we probably do have to brace ourselves for SOME down outings, maybe in particular as the warmer weather comes and some more fly balls leave the ballpark. We expected that. I’m not going to freak about it.
And even if that does happen, if he otherwise keeps executing as well as he has been so far, he’s still going to string together good starts. The results are likely to still be good, even if not so ridiculously over the top that he was the no-brainer NL Rookie of the Year for the first month of the season:
There was no other choice, in my view, even as a number of NL rookies – including Imanaga’s teammate Michael Busch – had solid first months of the year.
